The Quantock Hills

The Quantocks are 38 square miles of the most beautiful hills and wooded combes. Home to red deer and wild ponies, with stunning views to the coastline, the Brendon Hills, Blackdown Hills and Exmoor. Wonderful for walking, mountain biking and horse riding (there is an excellent riding stable nearby).

It is no surprise that the Quantock Hills inspired the romantic poets Taylor Coleridge and Wordsworth. Coleridge wrote some of his most famous poems when living in Nether Stowey, one of the Quantock Villages, in a property now owned by the National Trust.

Local Walks

There are many opportunities within easy reach for walkers (and dogs) to enjoy gentle walks or serious fitness hikes. The nearby villages of Bicknoller and Holford have combes that extend from the village to the top of the Quantocks, whilst those seeking longer expeditions may sample the Coleridge Way and MacMillan Ways.

Local Beaches

There are several beaches in the area. The nearest is Kilve on the Jurassic coast, 6 miles away, wonderful for fossil hunting. Minehead is a popular family resort with shops, restaurants and amusement arcades close to the beach.

Golf and Water Sports

There are several golf courses nearby and, for those with less energetic golfing ambitions, a 9-hole course at Cedar Falls Health Farm is just down the road. For water sports enthusiasts, Wimbleball Lake is 40 minutes from here for angling, kayaking, dinghy sailing and many land based activities.
